It was two American brothers created Mooney in 1929: Albert and Arthur Mooney. Their first planes were particularly popular with the demobilised American aviators. These planes then became renowned for their speed.

The Mooney M20 series, piston aircraft with low wings and tricycle train, was a great success after the 1950s. Almost all M20s have a retractable train and a very recognizable vertical leading edge. They have at least 4 seats. Soaring America Corporation bought Mooney in 2014, and the brand lives on.
