Eurocopter was founded in 1992 in France. It was a merge of two already existing companies: the national industrial aerospace company and the German company, Deutsche Aerospace. Both initiatives were intended to meet the military needs of each country without ever depending on the United States.

Since 2016, the company has been called Airbus Helicopters and has around 20,000 employees worldwide. It largely dominates the helicopter market, both civil and military.
